An Invitation into the World of Sacred Plant Medicine

Cacao opens the heart, warms the body, calms the mind, and nourishes the spirit. She can support us in sharing our story, being open to wisdom, and tuning into our intuition.

Our evening will open with a discussion about plant-spirit medicine and the history of cacao. We'll take time to honor the healers, elders, and medicine peoples of central and south America who have preserved this sacred medicine and those who continue to tend to the trees and their fruit.

Our ritual will include song, meditation, transpersonal movement and the drinking of cacao. Afterwards, we'll gather in council to share reflections and reconnect with one another.

I have a deep love for cacao and guiding a journey with this ancient wisdom keeper is an honor. Cacao has opened my heart in so many ways and I would love to welcome you into the world of sacred plant medicine with this beautiful experience.

Sacred plant medicine is a significant part of The Cavewoman Way and while many are curious about the experience, the idea of journeying with a plant or mushroom can feel intimidating. Cacao offers a gentle experience and a soft introduction into working with elders and healers from the plant realm.

It is in the spirit of gratitude and community that I offer this ritual and journey. While these ceremonies are not typically free, I am excited to offer this experience as an invitation into a deeper relationship with plants and nature.

The Modern Cacao Cermoney

Words from Jonas Wanka @ ORA

The three universal pillars that we see as core to creating cacao ceremony are: gratitude, intention, and reciprocity.

Modern day cacao ceremonies are not trying to emulate a cultural ritual from another time and place. Just because people long ago related to cacao in a certain way doesn’t mean that way is any better or even any more suited to our present day cultural context and needs. Rather, what cacao ceremonies today have in common with ancient cultures that worked with ceremonial cacao is a genuine desire to connect with, to be guided by, and to learn from cacao. Cacao ceremony is an opportunity to listen and connect.

Cacao is a teacher that is skilled at helping us reconnect with our own hearts, tend our relationships, and walk through life purposefully and guided by clear vision. When we relate with cacao ceremonially, we open our apertures to a far greater experience than simply enjoying cacao as a delicious beverage with health, mood, and energy benefits. While all of these are compelling reasons to drink cacao, according to some Indigenous elders, ceremony is the way to put our lives into order and, in turn, bring the cosmos into order.

Safety

The theobromine in cacao may temporarily increase heart rate and blood pressure and raise blood sugar levels. While a ceremonial dose of cacao has less caffeine than most cups of coffee, some individuals may still want to be cautious. Pregnant or breastfeeding people should reduce or cut out caffeine and stimulants before this gathering. Those with epilepsy, pacemakers, or serious mental health conditions should consult their doctor before consuming cacao.
